Deb Mukerji was born in India, moved to Canada in 1969 and has been a Canadian Citizen for over 30 years.
He is a gold medal winning artist and is known for his original style and technique.
After graduating from Agra University he went on to join the College of Arts in New Delhi. Finishing first in the final exams he received his degree in Fine Arts in 1964. During his time as a student, he became Honorary Examiner for an alternate Art College. Two of his paintings were selected for the Government of India’s National Exhibition and were purchased the same to be part of their permanent collection.
Deb had his first “one man show” in 1965, and an exhibition of sketches in 1966. The third one man show took place in Montreal in 1970. Since then he has been active with other galleries. His paintings are held by avid collectors across Canada, the United States and Europe.
Several of his water colour paintings were printed on the cover of the Montreal Star TV Guide. Two full page sketches of churches and street sculptures in Montreal were also published in the Gazette. He illustrated several books such as: “Legends of Indian History”, “Treasury of Indian Tales”, “Stories for Panchatantra”, and several magazines. Numerous drawings have been included in fashion inserts for “The Bay”.
Deb’s Paintings are reflections of his feelings towards his surroundings, his fellow beings and the earth we live on. Sometimes his paintings depict highly emotional and powerful images.
